## When to Use

Use when someone needs a concrete price for a service, freelance rate, product price, or SaaS tier. NOT for designing a full pricing page (use Pricing Strategy for that). NOT for enterprise deal negotiation or contract pricing.

Best for:
- Freelancers setting a new rate
- Small businesses choosing product pricing
- Founders pricing their first SaaS tier
- Consultants building a rate card

## Triggers

"how much should I charge", "freelance rate", "pricing calculator", "cost-plus pricing", "value-based pricing", "competitive pricing", "set my rate", "hourly rate", "project fee", "monthly retainer", "pricing for my service", "pricing for my product", "break-even analysis", "pricing model", "rate card"

## Methodology

This skill follows a 5-phase process. Phase 1 gathers context. Phase 2 researches market rates. Phase 3 runs three pricing calculations. Phase 4 reconciles them. Phase 5 validates and ships the recommendation.

### Phase 1: Gather Pricing Context

Before any calculation, collect the full context:

1. **What you sell** — Service, product, SaaS, consulting. Be specific (e.g., "email marketing setup for e-commerce stores" not "marketing help").
2. **Target market** — Enterprise, SMB, consumer, freelance clients. Each market has a different willingness-to-pay band.
3. **Current pricing** — What do you charge now (if anything)? What is the customer paying now (including competitors)?
4. **Annual income goal** — Pre-tax income target. For freelancers, this is personal draw. For businesses, this is profit target.
5. **Monthly expenses** — Business expenses (software, rent, contractor costs) plus personal expenses if self-employed.
6. **Billable hours per week** — Be realistic. Most freelancers cannot bill 40 hours/week. Use 25-30 for established freelancers, 15-20 for those also doing sales and admin. For product/SaaS pricing, estimate total monthly customers instead.
